• Operation Bachelet

bacheletHow many different kinds of carrots are there in the known world? In how many ways can you cook them? What does the White Rabbit’s wife do all day long? How long does it take for a snail to go to war? What happens if an elephant believes to be a cat? Why ostriches aren’t fables main characters?

Gilles Bachelet tries to answer these and many other questions by putting together absurd lists and creating stories told by unexpected points of view. Always playing with the contrast between his accurate drawings and the absurdity of the situations he sets up, Bachelet is one of the great masters of contemporary humour.

Operation Bachelet is meant to be a free dive without life jacket (but with carrot-like fins) into the world of the great French illustrator.

It is s double-faced project: the original artwork from Bachelet’s last books will be shown at Galleria ABC, giving the audience the chance to lose themselves in the stories and to follow the ironic vein typical of all his production.
Those who want to take a sneak peek inside Gilles Bachelet’s head and discover the crazy backstage of his creative process, the exhibition at Hamelin will recreate the Bachelet method: his way of looking at the world and portraying it by cataloguing, stacking objects, self portraits, and all the literary and artistic references that crowd his universe.

Through a lot of unpublished material – especially his documentation work and the sketches from his personal carnets – showed to the audience for the first time, this exhibition wants to pay a tribute to Bachelet’s artistic universe.

Gilles Bachelet will discuss his work in a public lecture at CUBO Unipol (piazza Vieira de Mello, 3/5), Tuesday April 4th 2017 – H 17.30.
